LOOSE RING BITS
The loose ring encourages the horse to play with and accept the
bit. The nutcracker action of a jointed bit has a 'lifting' effect,
whilst a straight bit provides stability. The thickness of a bit
determines its severity - the thicker the mouthpiece the kinder the bit.
Rubber covered bits are particularly suitable for sensitive horses. French, roller and Dr.Bristols all encourage chewing and salivation,
which in turn helps the horse to accept the bit in a relaxed manner. The
inclusion of a port on some bits aids flexion. |

EGGBUTT BIT
Eggbutt bits are a popular basic bit which would suit most
horses. Particularly useful for horses that experience chafing from
loose ring variety bits. The shaped rings help prevent the bit
from being pulled through the horse's mouth and keep the bit centrally
positioned. |

D- RING BITS
D- Rings bits are the original and traditional racing bits. The
D- Ring keeps the bits centrally positioned in the horse's mouth, and
also help guide the horse when turning. Their design helps prevent
chafing and pinching on the sides of the horse's mouth and lips. |

J.P. BITS
These quality stainless bits are unique in their design. Crafted
with curved mouth bars that reduce the 'nutcracker' action of a regular
snaffle, they also stop the bit from hitting the roof of the horse's
mouth. The curved shape also allows room for the horse's tongue and
eliminates interference that conventional bits cause. Perfect for
performance horses, creating maximum comfort and therefore a top
performance. |

PELHAM BITS
Pelhams offer the combined action of both a curb bit and snaffle.
However, they have a more severe leverage action than a snaffle because
they act on the jaw as well as the bars of the mouth. The snaffle rein
when attached the Pelham, assists in 'lifting' the horse, whilst the
curb rein encourages flexion. The longer the cheek bars of the bit, the
more severe the action. |

SWEET IRON BITS
Sweet Iron is a unique metal designed to encourage salivation and
acceptance of the bit. As the metal oxidises it produces a sweet taste,
something most horses take kindly to and this promotes relaxation in the
mouth and acceptance of the bit. |

HAPPY MOUTH BITS
Happy mouth bits are made from a polyurethane material which is
light and flexible. Extremely soft and kind to the horse's mouth, they
are suitable for use on young, sensitive horses, horses just backed and
those horses who are not comfortable in conventional stainless steel
bits. Available in a wide variety of styles, each bit acts with its
unique characteristics, but its effect is somewhat softened by the
warmth and flexibility of the polyurethane material. |

HACKAMORES
Hackamores are ideal for use on sensitive or difficult horses and
work by applying pressure on the nose, jaw and poll. The English
Hackamore has a metal shank and a broad, padded noseband, which presses
on the nose. The leather curb 'chain' acts on the chin groove. The
German Hackamore is similar to the English type in its use and purpose. Bitless bridles are useful if a horse will not accept a conventional
bit. |
