169: Sunday 23rd December. Christmas Shoot
The last shoot of 2007 already; and whatever good intentions were had at the beginning of the year about improving the Sunday scores have now had to become the new resolution for 2008!!
This week's set-up certainly didn't help, courtesy of Aggy and Stuart, with a really testing layout. I fear that it might have been accidental; even so few of the members thanked them for their efforts!
The easy stand was the outgoing 90 and standard, but even that caught some people out. Then there was the on report pair of teal thrown from different traps in the pit which in turn made the rabbit and outgoing standard shot from the tower look easy!
We don't even talk about the battue thrown from the tower and to crown it all were the 90 and standard simultaneous quartering pair shot from the pit that were almost impossible as a pair.
The scores were abysmal! So it is best that we draw a veil over 2007 and look forward to 2008 when we will be back to shooting in classes again. On today's results we might all be in "C"!!
Thanks to Stacey and Dan for being up at the crack of dawn as standby helpers, to Linda who did a sterling job with the refreshments and to all the members that have helped set-up and put away throughout the year; Happy shooting to you all in 2008.

168 : 8th December 2007 The Tony Gargiulo Trophy
There wasn't a dry eye in the clubhouse when Paul G took first place today. In fact there weren't any dry bits of anyone anywhere!!!
After a dry start to the day, whilst Bert and Wayne set us up a fabulous shoot, the heavens opened and we all got soaked. Yet again we were able to prove beyond any measure of a doubt that clay shooters are all completely barmy.
The layout this week provided a straightforward mix of targets. Stand 1 saw a quartering pair from the right, 2 gave us a simultaneous rabbit and a wind assisted incomer, the tower was stand 3, where there were an evil pair of battue and stand 4 was an outgoing pair of standards; which left us with the pit. Inspired by his recent visit to Paddock Wood Wayne gave us a fast driven bird to contend with followed by a high outgoing bird from behind.
The layout was appreciated by everyone. Thanks also to all of the rain soaked members who stayed on to help put away and especially Angie, who did the washing up for all us lazy men!
As for scores, Paul scored 32 and, following the toss of a coin (rather than going outside again!) Dan was second and Barry E. third, both on 31.
See you all on the 23rd December for the final shoot of this year.

167: Turkey Shoot 2007
The second to last Sunday shoot of the year already, and as usual it brings us to the Turkey shoot; unfortunately this year they were all getting their flu jabs and avoiding Bernard Mathews, so we had to settle for breaking clays again!!!

There was the usual 2 man (out of the hat), 60 bird flush and 2 normal stands to shoot. For the flush, clays were thrown in a sequence from any 4 out of 6 traps each time the guns were closed and, as happens every year, the pairs of shooters not involved in counting hits, misses and no-birds all discussed tactics. Unfortunately all of the tactics were rapidly replaced with just getting as much lead in the air and letting chaos reign when it was their turn to shoot. (no change there then!)

Paul and George started with a very impressive display on the flush and led the way for much of the morning. However with ever increasing amounts of advice being offered, and totally ignored, there were spirited efforts to overhaul Paul and George’s score but it took the 2 Stuarts to actually succeed.

Of the other 2 stands the battues from the pit took their toll and the quartering bird from the tower looked a lot easier than it was. Final scores are shown below with each shooter getting half recorded as their Sunday shoot score.

166: November 10th The Chris Wallace Memorial Shield
Report: Stuart Marnoch.
Pictures: Andrew York HERE

There was a great turnout for a Saturday with 25 shooters venturing out to contend for the shield. Having been a windy night the morning turned into an unremarkable November day.
George and Clive had put the thinking caps on again and we were treated to something a little different from the norm across 6 stands. Novel was the following pair that passed by ones left shoulder at some speed on stand 5 and then there was the one from the lower tower!!
George had been in construction mode again and the rabbit trap had been transformed into a sort of lopping rabbit... or kangaroo... or possibly more like a clay that went up and down from the lower tower very quickly, and never showed much more than an edge!!
Even so the scores weren't too bad with Barry in 6th place, Bob and Patrick in joint 4th, Andy in 3rd, Stuart 2nd and Paul taking the shield home again with an excellent score of 44.
Don't forget that Sunday the 25th November is the Turkey Shoot so be prepared for a 2 man flush....and probably a great deal of discussion about the rules!!!!

165: 28th October 2007 Beretta sponsored shoot
Report: Stuart Marnoch.
No more shooting in shorts this year then!
The autumn is here with wind, fog and rain to make it feel like "real" BHCPSC shooting; with the waterproofs on! Biggin Hill weather did its best to put us off this week but no, all of the stalwarts were there allowing us to make self righteous comments about fair weather shooters!
Yes, those people indoors, with hot coffee and the Sunday papers, who were dry & warm, considering what to have as an aperitif whilst the smell of a roast wafts through the house.....come to think of it that would be those with a bit of sanity left!!!!
Head of the stalwarts however were Bert and his guest Adam who gave us a really good set-up with something for everyone to make it worthwhile venturing out.
Thanks also to all of the helpers that packed away in the pouring rain, Mrs M for the refreshments and to Beretta for the prizes.
The scores this week showed Dan and Brian in joint 4th place (making the bet null and void!) whilst Paul closely followed Stuart who in turn came second to Barry E with an excellent score of 42.

PS. I am delighted also to say that the news from chez Thornton is that Terry is progressing well.

164: Saturday October 13th Napier Sponsored Day
Report: Stuart Marnoch.
Our thanks go to our latest two set-up rookies, David and Ray, for giving us all some interesting targets on a fine shooting morning. They gave us the "easy" outgoing 90 and standard from the manual trap, the kangaroo at the pit, the rocket propelled quartering 90 and that infuriating teal from the top pit.
If they were looking for friends they failed miserably!
The scores however were a bit more respectable this week.
Barry and Keith carried on with their private battle; this week Keith on 30 took 4th place over Barry in 5th, who scored 29.
Bob in 2nd place with a score of 35 will have to get his act together as Andy was only just behind him in 3rd. Personally I think that parental power is under threat here so I suggest that it might be easier for Bob to stop Andy's allowance until he shows more respect and stops improving.
In first place and taking the honours this week with a very credible score of 39 was Paul.

163: Sunday September 30th - Express Sponsored Day
Report: Stuart Marnoch.
A beautiful bright day, greeted about 25 shooters to enjoy a variety of targets designed to tease and mystify.
The desire to ensure that pick-ups are kept to an absolute minimum for the next shoot was unfortunately thwarted and even the straightforward outgoing standard and 90 on stand 4 beat some of the best.
The battue from the tower looked difficult; and they were!
The incomer and timed outgoer on stand 1 made two individually easy birds an "interesting" pair. Everything depended on the shooter's style to know which one to shoot first.
For most of us it didn't make much difference!
So with Wayne to blame for setting up the shoot the top scorer was Paul with 34, closely followed by Dan on 33 (yes, it does go to show what a sober Saturday night can do!) and they were followed by Bob and Patrick on 28.
Patrick took the honours in the sudden death following 7 kills each in the initial shoot off.
The top three shooters all went away with new safety shooting glasses.
Our thanks go this week to Mrs. M. for standing in for Rose and ensuring that the smell of bacon sandwiches continued to waft out of the clubhouse.

162: Saturday September 15th. The Barnsby Shoot
Report: Stuart Marnoch. Pics to Follow........
A reasonably good turnout of shooters for a Saturday were presented with a Bob and Andy special layout. As ever it all looked pretty simple till you came to shoot the **** things.
There was another opportunity to practice on the rising birds launched from the pit and someone had the bright idea of shooting a battue and mini combination. I can only say that there will be a lot of pick-up's in the boxes next time!!!
Shooting from the pit we tried a mini flush using 3 traps on a timed release. This raised a range of reactions from the shooters. Unfortunately one of the three traps was a little prone to no-birds and we hadn't worked out how to handle that in the middle of a 2 pair combination. Next time we will have it sussed and when we get to the 2 man flush at the Turkey shoot we will be experts!!!
The scores still reflected the lack of mentoring from Terry and Paul took the first place with a measly 32, closely followed by Stuart, Bob, Patrick and Graham in that order.
Thanks this week has to go to Howard for laying on a buffet for the corporate shooters and ourselves in lieu of Rose's normal offering.

161:  Sunday September 2nd Saddlery & Gunroom Trophy
Report: Stuart Marnoch. Pictures Patrick Collins
A good turnout of shooters on a fine day were greeted with a taxing layout set up by Stuart Maddock and Dan, ably supported by Paul.
The clays launched from the pit teased everyone by looking so easy, but as many of us found to our cost they were almost un-shootable. The pair launched from the tower seemed turbo powered as they embedded themselves in the ground and more than one shooter was heard to raise an expletive as they tried to get the second barrel fired before it was too late.
Salvation was found in the rabbit and long incomer which saw some confidence return to normally sane shooters and then only to be lost again as the mini and standard pair from the right proved trickier than they should have been.
Polite respect was afforded to Stuart Maddock for setting up but it might have been more to do with his size than the way he set up the traps!!!
As always an abundance of advice was given by everyone, to everyone else; unfortunately we were without Terry T. as our greatest source of advice (I didn't say it was good advice!) and the scores were pretty mediocre.
Dan and Bob decided to toss a coin for 6th place with a score of 26 (yes it was out of 50!!) with Dan taking the honours. Keith was 5th and after a shoot-off Barry E. took 4th place (using Keith's gun!!) and Paul 3rd.
The runner up was Patrick whilst Stuart Marnoch took home the silverware for the third year running.
Thanks to everyone who helped put away, thanks also to Howard for the trophies but this week a very special message to Terry to get well and come back soon.

160: Saturday August 18th practise shoot
So many people have been saying to me we're in a recession, looking at the
stock market over the last month and the attendance on the recent shoots, you
could almost believe it. Despite an excellent set up by Ian N. and Graham E.
Saturday was no different, only 18 people, ok it is Holiday time, so lets get
out there and have a crack!
There was a simultaneous pair, fast left to right crosser needing a bit of
lead, followed by a dropping right to left, that caused a lot of problems for
most, the midi and standard from the pit wasn't that easy either. However they
were all easy to Stuart M. and Bob Y. who relative to the others, shot
well, well done chaps.
Hang on the FTSE has just broken upwards, now trading at 6100, best to
oil, those guns, ready for the next shoot!!

159: Sunday 5th August Treasurers Trophy
On Friday I phoned Patrick C. to remind him to return the trophy for the Treasurers Shoot., which he had won last year (where he beat Stuart M. by one clay) Well history nearly repeated itself, not only did the sun shine, and most shooters had shorts on, it was a sunny 30 degrees, Terry T. as always shot
brilliantly, and, you guessed it, Patrick won again! this time by beating Paul G. by one clay in a shoot off.
It was a brilliant set up and the boys certainly earned the wine that Terry provided, unopened of course!
Brian I. was 4th, 3rd spot went to Stuart M and as mentioned earlier Paul G. was second and Patrick first. It was a great shoot, thanks goes to Terry T. for the wine and Trophies.

"Just thought we would put in last years Shoot Pic and report to remind our  readers of what summers used to be like !!And then, ........
This year was a total different story,
I was not surprised at of the low turnout at the sponsored Suzuki shoot at  Biggin Hill, not only the heavy rain of the previous week was a 'putter offer' but also it was the start of the holiday season. George and Bert braved the elements to set up a really testing layout, with a few new ideas that will no
doubt be copied in the future., well done you two.
Scores were un- typically low for the conditions, as shooters dodged the showers (in a similar format the lead dodged the clays! )The top three 'guns' could only average barely average over 50 %
The results were as follows (in reverse order of course)
3rd our ace colt shooter Andy Y. Who also for his efforts picked up a

2nd. Patrick C.

What a day for sport, Men's Wimbledon Finals (I reckon the Swiss guy) also  the British Grand prix, I reckon our man Lewis Hamilton (although when I  last spoke to him he mentioned that he was having a few probs in the pits, and  wasn't getting on with the lollipop man. Did you
read how much he is worth- 1/2 billion dollars-that's just under 250  million quid, crikey, almost as much as Howard!!!!!
Also the tour de France, which started in London, sorry still can't work  that out, and... .....the Browning Sponsored day at Biggin Hill.. Well at least  it was warmer and drier than the last couple of weeks, and there was a  reasonable turnout.
A couple of stands had, so/miltan/eo/us, pairs together, which got a few of  the entrants going, TT couldn't hit the driven, a height problem I think.
Daryl C scored an excellent round with 41 trailing behind was Stuart M.
Paul G. And Bob Y. who picked up some shells and goodies laid on by Browning.
Thank you to the guys who set up, and cleared up. On a note of Housekeeping,
did you win this year's Independent Magazine? If so see Paul or Stuart.

156: Saturday June 23rd Have a go Day
The BHCPSC held its Annual 'have a go day' on Saturday This a chance for anybody of any age to see what its like to shoot a shotgun for free! About 70 people chanced their arm, and were coached by Paul, Brian, Nathan, Stuart and Neil H. (nice to see him after a long break!!) The standard was good, and it was pleasing to to see that everyone took it seriously.
The 'boys' had a pool shoot with a cup supplied by Stuart M for the highest score on the 20 down the line section, this was won by Bob Y who scored 18, ok, I didn't believe it either, its the highest I have ever seen on this section. So well done Bob pity Andy wasn't there to see (verify) it ,there is a trophy waiting for your collection. This discipline is Paul's and Brian N's favourite, and unfortunately, there wasn't enough time for them to shoot. Paul G supplied a trophy for a pool shoot, for 'the have a goers' who were interested, this was won by Frank, after Simone and Heinrich had held the lead for some time
Thanks to Mrs Jill. M. for substituting in for Rosemary at the previous shoot, while,Mrs T was on Hols . Also thanks to Pam for her administration work in the club house and Oliver S for his efforts.
Well done to the coaches and setter uppers and to StuartM. who most of the time was running around like a blue xxsed fly, which I guess can only explain his score of 23!!

155: Sunday 10th June Gamebore Sponsored  Day
Report Stuart M.
A lovely sunny day greeted us for one of Bob and Andy's "special" layouts.
There was the overhead pair of a mini and a midi shot from the tower that tantalised the shooter and disappeared from view for the short-sighted. Then there was the overhead incomer in the pit that we had all forgotten how to shoot and the very easy looking rising teal that wasn't!!! (ask Dan!!!)
Still the sun did shine and everyone seemed to have a good time.
Thanks to Bob and Andy, to all the extra helpers who put away and thanks too to Jill for stepping in to do the refreshments
As for the results Stuart came out on top with Bob second (I wonder who designed the layout?) and Paul G, Keith and Patrick not that far behind. Thanks to Gamebore Cartridges for the prizes.
Don't forget it is have a go day on the 23rd June and we will make sure that there are plenty of stands for both members and the "have a goers" so don't be put off.

Paul Gater (last year's winner) forgot to bring the trophy back, so he decided to win it again!!
This was a good turnout considering the showers and the lack of heat we have  been experiencing over the past couple of months, warmest spring on record I  hear, but then everything seems to be a new record these days. Thanks go to  Bert Andy and Bob for the excellent set up, what would we do without these
boys, I don't know. on that note we desperately need some more 'setter uppers' to  add to the few we all ready have if you would like to help out please see  Stuart (There is a financial reward for setting up) So if you can help out, please volunteer, YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU.
Back to the proceedings Andy shot a superb 37 to take third place in second  Spot was Stuart M, and as mentioned Paul G was high gun and presented himself  with trophy at home.
Thanks to everyone who took part.

A surprising number turned up for Saturday's Shoot which was a practice day.It was cold and windier enough to blow away any 'hangovers'followingthe Annnual Dinner the night before. The sun, when it appeared was a bit of a strain on the old eyes though. The scores reflected, that practice was needed. Not so for ahmed(Apologise for spelling) who has been absent following a cricket injury who scored just under 70 % and was the highest score, so congratulations, and well done, don't rush back!! Sunday was not only Mother's day but also the first stage of two shoots,  the Wingate Trophy, Congratulations to the setter uppers, Dave T.Stuart and  George for an excellent testing layout which must have been difficult getting  the stands ready in that biting wind and rain Apologies to the few newcomers
who hadn't experienced the Biggin Hill climate!! The rain did clear, to allow  some hail and snow to take over, but hey boys what about that wind eh, only the rabbit behaved itself, almost a straight line. But being Mothering Sunday the sun did eventually break free to move the temperatures out of the wind) up to about 5 centigrade.

The setup was a nightmare as the wind did a full 180 degree about turn

dodge the shot.......... or is that just the excuse for the week!
The leaders (or should that be loosers) for the reverse shoot week 1 were

Biggin Hill weather didn't let us down. Those brave enough to venture out were treated to a cold and very wet shoot that had very little to commend it. The targets were at their best with rocket propelled mini's off the tower and kamikaze batteaux over the pit but everyone was more interested in the sausage sandwiches and the less hostile environment in the clubhouse. Thanks to Paul and Dan for setting the shoot up and also for tying for first place (strange that!). The rest of us couldn't read the water soaked score cards!
