report...Stuart M.
Another brilliant set-up from team Croydon, albeit less the cherry-picker
this time.
The theme seemed to be simple is good with several stands looking easy from
afar. The pit appeared a straight forward overhead pair but the second bird
caught out quite a few. The pair from the tower were rocket propelled and the
DTL bird from the top pit really sorted the men from the boys.
How could a straight bird just off centre be so difficult?
Answers in writing to Stuart who scored a one (yes 1) on this stand.
Those that did much better were Bob 1st on 35, Paul 2nd, Patrick 3rd, Daryl 4th
and bringing up the tail end James and Barry E.
We also introduced an air rifle pool shoot to break (sorry try to break) static
clays of various sizes with a 60% Payout to first and second. The remainder of
the pot going to members funds with a view to part funding an automatic rabbit
trap. Almost everyone had a go but thanks to macho pride team Croydon donated a
great deal of the pot while they all battled it out for the prizes.
Strange that Daryl, Bobby and James were the ones that adjusted the sights!!!
When we get them right again we will have another go!
Other suggestions for raising some funds would be welcome.
Latest news on injuries
Terry T .. still out with torn knee cartilage
Barry E. Awaiting return soon from ankle injuries
And they said Clay shooting wasn't dangerous!!
Happy new year to all our readers

143: Saturday December
9th The Tony Gargiulo Trophy
Congratulations to Bob Y. who scored 39 to take this trophy on Saturday,
there was a low turnout about 15 'guns', as I believe most members were being
taken to the pre Christmas sales. The new system of 'setter uppers' is a great
success and is producing some testing layouts, This shoot was no exception with
the high going away teal followed by a rabbit on report, proving to be one
of the more difficult stands. This was a high gun only winner which as
mentioned was Bob second was Stuart M. and third Daryl C.

142: Sunday 26th November Turkey Shoot
It just seemds 5 minutes ago that the embers were going out of the Bonfires
for Guy Fawkes night, but Sunday saw the Annual Turkey Shoot. (Time does seem
to go fast as one gets older, so Howard said, that reminds me, never did get
an invite to his 50th. never mind there is always his 60th.......) Thanks
to the boys for an excellent set up, especially the 60 bird flush where we
shot in pairs (drawn from the hat). The other two sporting stands were
equally tricky, especially the left to right crossers, in which Stuart M told
everyone to double their lead, only to forget to take his own advice and was
pipped into second place! It was a great shoot, and the football to look
forward to later (I reckon we will beat Man U 2 Nil but I expect it will be
1-1just to keep it lively) Thanks go to Howard who supplied the Hampers
Results were as follows Third Andy Y. and Barry H.
2nd Stuart and Keith
1st position went to the great team of Barry E and Mike S.

141: Saturday November 10th Chris Wallace
Trophy
An enjoyable day was had by all involved in this ever popular Yearly Trophy
Third was Patrick C. Second Stuart M. and the high gun position and Trophy
went to the veteran Paul G

140: Sunday October 29th Beretta Sponsored Day
We must thank Stuart M for his organisational cape abilities for
arranging volunteers for the set up each week, on which note, more are needed,
so please see Stuart if you help.
A month ago Darryl C. asked if he could bring a 'Cherry Picker' up at the next
shoot Based on the fact that most of the Polish agricultural workers had moved
on to cabbages and sprouts at this time of year I said he better clear it with
Howard. "No you Dummy" or something to that effect was his reply, this was a
heist that you often see men working on the street lights with. The idea was to
put an auto trap on the galley about 50 feet high to send a high and difficult
bird going away, this was a pair, the other being a extremely low 1 foot off the
ground, right to left bird on report, two groups had a go until, alas, the
autotrap broke down, the remainder of the layout was equally testing, and it was
obvious that a lot of thought and planning had gone in.
Thanks to James, Darryl, Ed, and the boys for the great set up!!
Thanks also to Beretta for the goodies!
Paul G. was the high gun and took the Beretta Gun Holder "2nd was Barry, and Ed
took the third position.

139: Saturday October 14th Napier Sponsored Day
For a Saturday there was a reasonable turn out for the Shoot.
Perhaps the word got round that it was the yearly
Napier Sponsored Event, with
shooting glasses as the prizes for the top three. George Bob and Stuart
set up and thanks goes to them for their efforts in making the lay out
extremely testing and almost enjoyable (I think Andy Y. also had a hand it, but
he decided to hide away in a Tent down somewhere in Keston on the pretext
of taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme) The top three averaged 72%
which was top class, and were awarded the glasses as well as a bottle of wine
for the high gun which was Daryl C. Second was Paul G. after a shoot off with
Stuart
M. who took third spot, who would have finished higher if it were not for some
well timed barracking from his Granddaughter. An extra pair of glasses has
been ordered for Dan M. for his attempts, his eye test at the optician has been
booked for Monday morning!!

Top
138: Sunday October 1st Express Sponsored Day
Thank you to Express Cartridges for sponsoring Sunday's Shoot. Also thanks to
Barry H. and Stuart M for setting up a most testing layout, not helped by the
wind which strengthened as the morning went on. Believe it or not we had a
slight hail storm for a few seconds, what is even harder to believe, is that
Chelsea drew with Villa, and that Brighton had a mini typhoon (I read it in the
paper so it must be true!) Easier to understand was that Stuart M. was high gun
with Paul G in second spot and Daryl C. third. Graham was fourth and Jan had a
'special' prize of a bottle of wine to be collected at the next shoot.
Thanks goes to to Howard for the wine.

136: Sunday September 3rd Saddlery &
Gunroom Trophy
The Saddlery and Gun Room yearly Trophy was the big shoot in Kent this
Sunday. Thanks to George and Stuart, for relieving Dave and Matt, who are taking
a well earned break from setting up. Please get in touch with Stuart if you can
help out for future shoots. The springs on the traps seemed to be 'wound up' as
the clays were as fast as duck coming in to roost. There was a reasonable wind
which changed direction in the morning making the layout even harder. There was
a variance in stands as well. The pits at opposite ends were interesting, one
with a driven grouse 20 yards out flying overhead, the other with a quartering
away teal. The Bateau from the tower wasn't that easy either, and nobody managed
to achieve a straight on this stand (£5 and a bottle of wine) although Darnel
and James put in an earlier claim which was turned down by the judges. About 30
entrants took part and it was a most enjoyable morning. Robin presented the
prizes which were as follows, in reverse order 6th. Patrick C. 5th. (after a
shoot off ) Keith. D 4th. spot went to Bob Y. 3rd was Barry H. 2nd Darrel C. and
in first position was Stuart M. who collected the Saddlery and Gun room Trophy
and a few other goodies (Well he did set up!!) James did in fact get a bottle of
wine, for achieving, the special prize of the day, for the lowest score!!

135: Saturday August 19th Practice Shoot
There was nothing on the card today just a practice shoot which looking at
the scores was sorely needed. Paul G. having just returned from Hols.
suggested a pool shoot, to help pay for those forthcoming credit card bill but
was thwarted by Stuart M. who shot a 33 on a difficult layout to take top
prize of £50 (or was it a fiver ).Thank goodness it didn't rain as the
shoot took forever, due to the delays because of the dog walkers. The
turnout was extremely low, I'm guessing holiday period, but the next shoot
which is the Gun and Saddlery Trophy in early September should prove if it
is just a trend. It was nice to see Stuart O. bring his son, William, along to
introduce him to the sport suffice to say by the last stand Dad was
seeking advice from the lad!! Well shot William. Second place went to Paul
G and third Dave. thanks to Dave for setting up and the lads who helped in
the clearing up.

134: Sunday August 6th Treasurer's Shield
With the Holiday period in full swing, about 25 members took part in
the Treasurer's Shield on Sunday. For security reasons we can't name them but enough
to say that 3 of the top ten this year were away, why when we are enjoying
a heat wave, continuing for all of July and some of June, should they take
their Holls for the renown Treasurers Shoot .is a mystery. It is a fact that the
weather is always good for this comp (100 degrees in 2004!!)
Despite the many pauses for the dog walkers, sorry folks, but safety first,
the shoot progressed well over the 50 bird layout. Stand of the day was
the pit, with
a pair fast over head bateau, there was a £20 prize for the first straight,
which unfortunately was not achieved, the highest being 9 by Terry T.....
It was a tricky layout, thanks to Dave C and Matt D, and I hope they enjoy
the wine. Patrick C. has had a few testing shoots recently, so he came on to
Terry's
board for some assistance, well as if by magic, he shot like a man posessed, or
is it possessed, any way like a madman, to equal the top score laid down by
last years winner Stuart M. After a nail biting shoot off, 5 pair of right to
left crossers, one crossing high about 5 yards in front of the stand and
the second 20 yards out faster and slightly quartering, simultaneously. Patrick
shot brilliantly and was the overall winner to take this year's Treasurers
Shield and Trophy beating Stuart M by one clay. So hard luck Stuart and well
done to Patrick C.
Third spot went to Dave C with Darrel C. and Barry E. in fourth and filth
| Dave T. who tells me he plays a mean game
of golf won this years booby prize We wish he has more luck shooting
with his clubs!! |

133: Saturday July 22nd
Suzuki MotoGP Trophy
The heatwave continues.. with temperatures dropping to 80 degrees, 27
degrees celsius for our younger readers, to set the scene for the illusive
Suzuki shoot on Saturday. Illusive as the previous winner, whoever that
was, hasn't returned the trophy. I am hoping it was Stuart M, as he was the days
top gun on 43. Second place went to Paul G. who scored an excellent 42,
Bob Y was third on 41.All the scores were really close all the way across
the board. Thanks to Howard and Oliver who set up.

132 Sunday July 9th Browning Sponsored Day
It was so nice to see Nigel L turn up at the Browning shoot on Sunday, for
all the members to say hello , as we haven't seen him for a while, and to wish
him and his family all the luck in the world for the future!!
The shoot was fairly quiet as the Summer Holiday period kicks in. There were
about 20 guns in the comp. It was a good layout made slightly harder by the
odd gusts of wind. Daryl C shot an excellent 42 to secure the top spot. Dave C
was second after a shoot off with the 'on form' Andy Y who all shared in
the prizes. No Stuart M or Paul G you may say, but methinks they are
saving themselves for the ever popular Treasurer shoot in a month!!
Thanks to Dave and Matt for the set up, and for the boys in the clear up
afterwards.

131: Saturday June 24th Have a go Day
Only about a dozen regulars turned up for Saturday's shoot...... but the
ground was packed....There were a few regular lessons, plus ,about 10 guys on a
stag weekend shoot plus about 30 people taking advantage of the have a' free'
go day. A few people also tuned up with their own guns for a 'try out',
notably Tim with his 2 twenty bores, a beretta silver pigeon and a lovely
browning. Also another chap with an old Spanish 20 bore which shot beautifully.
It was a good day with at least 6 people thinking of joining the club!!
Rosemary and Stacey were busy dishing out the tea and sarnis, and Pam kept her
cool despite the numbers of people. It was a most enjoyable morning,
especially as the sun stayed out, Can't remember the result of the pool
shoot, only that Andy Y., with his new 12 bore, was 4th......Pictures Click

130: Sunday June 11th Gamebore Sponsored Day
The sun, at long last, came out to give a beautiful day at Biggin Hill
for the Gamebore sponsored shoot on Sunday. Also coming out that day was a host
of lily white legs, yes it was that hot, check out the pics. Anne E. also
bought her massive umbrella to shelter her from those 30 degree rays, and the
odd broken clay!
Numbers were slightly down, maybe following hangovers after England's opening
win in the World Cup against Paraguay earlier in the week (What were the
substitutions about??)
It was a great set up, with Paul G, suffering from heat exhaustion, in third
position with 37. Stuart M. in his smart Panama hat scored 39 was second, but
Dave C, wearing his lucky Wellingtons, scored brilliantly with 41 and was the
overall winner, well done Dave and thanks to you and Matt for the set up. Daryl
C. was not in the top three, for a change, and presented the prizes, also
receiving trophies was Terry S. for the Reverse order shoot and Barry E. for the
Wingate shoot.
Finally we would all like to give our Best Wishes and good luck to Nigel L. and
his family
Webmaster's note "last time I saw legs like these Bob Geldof made an appeal!!!"

to the governor to set the course for Saturday's Independent magazine Trophy.
Thanks Howard.
Still waiting for warmth and sun most of the shooters were still in boots
and jackets., I remember the days at this time of the year it was t- shirts and
shorts..............Global warming? more like Global colding!!
Scoring was reasonably high with Paul and Bobby on 36 Joint 2nd./3rd. was
Stuartb M. and Barry E. who both shot 37, Daryl C took top spot with 41 to take
this high gun trophy. Thanks to James and the other lads who tidied up at the

Thanks go to Bisley who supplied some goods to sponsor our shoot on

about 14 people who seemed to enjoy their day under the guidance of John,
and Brian N. Paul G. was in good form taking the top prize, with Bobby in close
second, Bob Y. was third with James W. taking the fourth slot. Thanks to

BH Wingate Competition (2)
Spring has Sprung, and he sun came out to welcome the second stage of Paul
G's Wingate shoot which took place on Sunday. The reasonable turnout were
rewarded with an excellent set up by Mat D. and Dave C. Jonathan, the Shop
Manager, had a reasonable turnout as well, bringing along some friends,
for a friendly Easter shoot. The older members of the club, particularly
Brian I. would like to thank him for bringing along the three attractive blondes
and a brunette, whom he claimed distracted him and was the reason for his
low score, the girls had an impact as well!
The 5th. Position went to Bob Y. (The winner of the most improved shot
2005/2006). with Dave C in 4th., Third was Barry E with Darrel C in the runners
up position, scoring 65. Stuart M who scored 38 in the first round repeated
the feat to take the top spot with a a total of 76. Congratulations to Stuart

125: 2006 Shoot Dinner
Yet again, what a great night for the award ceremonies, held at the
Bakery Restaurant in Tatsfield, as always the food was superb, and we would like
to thank Andrew the proprietor, and all his staff for the first class service
and cuisine. Howard thanked Pam And Rosemary for their input to the club, by way
of presenting bouquets of flowers. Also Terry T Dave C and Matt C received gifts
in thanks for their help and support. It was a bit like the Oscars, as a few
winners were unable to attend, and there being no video link. the trophies will
be awarded to the relevant recipients at the next shoot. Barry E. (who became a
granddad on Monday) received the Eley shield that he won a few weeks ago. The
award for most promising shot prize at the last dinner went to Daryl Croydon,
this proved correct as this year he won the Laurona Trophy and was second in the
overall yearly totals. Bob York is this years winner of 'most promising shooter'
so lets hope we are right again. Unfortunately both Darryl and Bob were unable
to make the Dinner so they will receive their prizes later as mentioned. So to
the main event of the evening, the yearly trophies, 5th. position went to Barry
H. 4th Dave C. 3rd yes 3rd Paul Gater 2nd. Darryl C. and this years 'Hot Shot'
in 1st. position was of course Terryeeeee, sorry, Stuart M. So congratulations
to you all !! The full list of the years placings will be put up in the
clubhouse. Stuart M then advised on a new competition where the members will be
split into teams. and group scores will be added over the year. Regular shoots
will remain unchanged as do the trophies and although the members are split into
teams they will still shoot as they wish i.e. not in their designated teams.
Full details in the clubhouse. Finally thanks to Howard for the goodies, to John
Powell our web-master, and official photographer for the evening, and to Terry
for organising the event.

(1)
The first stage of Paul G's Wingate shoot took place on Sunday, please note
there are two shoots, and the amended dates are in the club house, and can also
be found on this site.
It was a cold clear morning (anybody know when spring is arriving? answers on a
postcard.
Stuart M. as usual, shot brilliantly, and took high gun on the day with 38 x 50.
As mentioned this comp. is over a couple of Sundays so we will wait and see how
good that score was, it was mentioned that Terry T shot an impressive round!
Prize winners of the Reverse order shoot collected trophies at the end of the
shoot. Also thanks boys, in the help afforded to Dave an Matt.
Look out for a new competition that Stuart M and Paul G are trying to devise,
team work, looks exciting; so does the prospect for the Dinner on Friday 24th.
please note it is at 7.30 p.m. for 8 p.m. (The Bakery, Tatsfield {opposite the

Barry Wins.
The Eley Shield was up for grabs on Saturday, that's if you could feel your
hands , it was freezing!! It was a lowish turnout, about 20 guns took part. The
set up was fantastic, the driven slightly quartering grouse, followed by a high
overhead, from the pit, proved the most tricky, (the 'sometimes' flying rabbit
wasn't that easy either) Scores were good, with the top 5 averaging 75% High gun
was Barry Etherton who will collect the trophy at a later date. John, our new CPSA qualified instructor 'had a go' and shot an impressive 80% but didn't count
as he was busy on the lesson stand. Again thanks to Stuart M. and others in
helping Dave and Matt in the clear up.
Have you ordered and paid for your presentation Dinner tickets on the 24th.
March? They are going like Hot Cakes, so get in there, as they say.

122: Sunday February 19th, 2nd Reverse Order Shoot
Pictures by Lord Lichfield (The DT Years)
HERE
What a terrific set up!! Well done to Dave and Mat for a testing second part
of the reverse order competition. Overhead midis, fast high quartering from
the tower, going away rabbit with a right to left crosser on report, not to
mention the batteau, even trickier in the cross wind. It was great fun.
Thanks goes to Stuart M for donating some of the 20 odd trophies which were
needed as over 30 guns took part in this 'popular' unusual shoot, in which
everybody in the top twenty picks their own trophy. It is in reverse order as
the lowest scorer has the opportunity to pick first and so on. Anne E. picked
up first prize together with a novelty bottle of wine, and bottom with the
highest score was Stuart M. who received a bottle of Howard's Champagne
(sparkling wine to you and me). Stuart was then presented with the Eley shield
that
he had previously won, and Daryl C. the Independent Magazine Trophy.
Thanks to everyone who helped in the 'clear up'

121: Saturday February 4th Laurona Trophy
What a great layout, turnout, for the Laurona Trophy on Saturday!!! The
only problem, was that last year's winner forgot to return the trophy. Totally
out of order!
We were honoured with the presence of Brian N. who came up to do some lessons,
and fortunately for us, didn't take part in the Comp. For those that did, it was
a good laugh.
The scores were reasonable with the top 6 averaging just under 70%.
Third was Barry E on 32 Paul G was joint 2nd on 35 with James. Top slot went to
Daryl C. with 37 So congratulations mate, and I promise to return the trophy at
the Dinner on the 24th. March............................

We had the first part of the reverse order shoot on Sunday, for those of you
who wish to understand how it works, I suggest you look at last year's
report on this site, and all will be clear.... ish.
About 32 people braved the early frost to take part on this excellent
layout, set by Dave and Matt, with the going away left to right and right to
left
simultaneous pair proving the most enjoyable, with some shooters managing to
shoot a pair with one shell! Notably Terry T who scored 6 with 3 shells!!,
making up for his doughnut on stand one. High scores of note on the day (which
will put them in the lower order for prizes) were, Darrel 41, Stuart 40. Paul
38 and Patrick with 37 The second stage is on 19 February, can't
wait...................

'Spot the shooters Competition'
Free round to the first winner pulled out of the sack who names all the
shooters!!
On Saturday we had a practise shoot (for those that needed it, me included). I
think we should rename this one to the 'blow the cobwebs out shoot', following
the long Christmas and new year holiday!! Matt bought along his, and Lou's,
Christmas present, see photo, a Samoyed (dog to you and me) called 'Mishkin',
Russian for white bear, if my A level Russian is correct.
Anyway everyone was misshking the clays as well, mainly due to the thick mist
that descended upon the ground to blend in with the snow, (and the dog).
Despite the poor conditions Barry E was in third position with 41 (x50) Paul G
second with 42, Daryl C. scoring 43 took top spot, Terry T. scrubbed his 47 by
way of a late presee to all the competitors. Thanks to Dave C. and Matt. D. for
setting up and to Stuart, Danny and Robin, who helped clear.
