23: NEW YEAR SHOOT

The fog and cold winds descended at BHCPSC for the first shoot of 2002.
After a dramatic shoot off Dave Cross was the victorious winner over Patrick  Collins Coming a very close third and fourth was Barry Etheridge and Ray Wortley. Taking into account the conditions everyone  shot well and it was nice to see new faces taking their safety lessons in  order to join the club.

24: Clay Shooting Magazine Shoot
The rain, which seems to have been pouring for the last month, left the
ground as a virtual mud bath for the Clay Shooting Magazine sponsored shoot
on Sunday. When it stopped the winds picked up making some of the crossers
very testing. If that was not enough, this was followed by a slow forming
mist, and it was hard to see some of the  'kills' for the driven birds. The
weather was not to deter the high number of members who turned up for this
popular shoot. As everyone knows this sponsored event is over a number of
weeks, with individual scores accrued to decide the winners. Final scores
will be announced at the conclusion, but scores of note in this leg were
Patrick Collins (yes he does like his new gun) with 35, and  (Smoking) Dave
Cross with 34. Apologies to Nigel  whos score of (??) was not high enough to
put in this report.

25: Laurona Trophy 9th Febuary 2002
A low turnout was seen on Saturday for the Laurona Trophy a 50 bird shoot.
Judging by the weather of late, and the infamous post Chrismas credit card
bills arriving it was understandable. For next year we will try to move this
to a more popular Sunday shoot. Neil and Dave set up a most testing
layout, excellent as allways, and thanks to them, from all the competitors.
The overall scores were very tight, just three points between first and
fourth, the overall winner being Dave Cross. So well done Dave, and we will
let you have the trophy as soon as last year's winner returns it !!

26: Clay Shooting Magazine
Pic Patrick Collins

Great Britain won gold for Curling in the Olympics, the last 'stone' hitting
the bull. Not to be outdone Paul Gater hit a few 'bulls' from those curling
clays coming out of the driven fourth stand, to score Gold and first place
in the finale of the Clay Shooting Magazine Winter series trophy on Sunday
at Biggin Hill.
These are the overall average percentage over the competitions for the top
three competitors,
Paul Gater 73%
Patrick Collins68%
Dave Cross 67%

In the club competition, results were as folows
A Group 1st.P. Gater, 2nd. P. Colllins,3rd. Stuart Marnoch.
B Group 1st. D. Cross, 2nd. B. Harradine, 3rd.R. Wortley
C Group. 1st. B. Irving 2nd. B. Etheridge, 3rd. N. Lashbrook.

27:  uzuki Sponsored Trophy
RAIN, GALES, SUN, HAIL, SUN, SLEET, SUN, SNOW.
Not the weather forecast for the Winter, but what was endured by the Shooters
at Biggin Hill on Saturday, for the two hours or so in the Suzuki Sponsored
Day. At one stage most of the competitors were in the club house with
Rosemary for a tea and bacon Sandwich (or were they really just trying to
stay warm and dry!!)
Dave Cross put on an excellent layout as always, which was made 3 times more
difficult because of the weather!
Parick Collins, last year's winner, dutifully returned the Cup, but then shot
an excellent (with the conditions) 36 to take top position and could return
the Trophy before the dust had settled on his cabinet!
Results were as follows,
1st Patrick Colllins 36
2nd Ray Wortley 31
3 rd. (Joint) Peter Bircham and Terry Thornton 30
Thanks again To Garry and Team Suzuki down at Edenbridge for all your help and good luck for your 2002 season on the four stroke.

28: Wingate shoot  24 March 2002
A very high turnout was seen for this popular event, shot over three
competitions. I was asked "what actually does Wingate mean", well for those
less informed, nothing too technical, it was a shoot set up by Tom WINGham
and Paul GATEr, many moons ago,(Paul was about 30, so it was at least 20
years ago !!), and continues to be enjoyed. Final results will be known
after the third and final shoot on Saturday 4th. May. High gun on the day
was surprisingly Paul GATEr with 42.Results for the club shoot were as
folows,
A. Class 1st. Paul Gater 2nd. Dave Cross
B. Class 1st. Nigel Lashbrook 2nd. Neil Hux (after a three way shoot off.
C Class. 1st. Peter Burcham 2nd. Mike Simms

29: Wingate Shoot 6th April 2002
After the soaring temperatures of Easter, the weather settled down to the
normal, for Biggin Hill (Freezing easterly wind) for the second part of the
Wingate Shoot, at BHCPSA, on Saturday. Alernating crossers with a 50mph
wind,on stands 4 and 5 proved, well what could one say?, "testing", although
they were called a few other things over the morning! It was an excellent
set up by Dave and Neil as always, and, apart from the weather, was enjoyed
by all. As mentioned in the previous report, the final results will be known
after the third section in May. High Gun on the day was Stuart Marnoch who
shot an excellent 37, as the wind decreased to just 45mph!

30: Eley sponsored shoot
Summer is coming! According to Sunday's blue sky and sun that greeted the participants in the Eley sponsored shoot, is the bad weather a thing of the past?? The shoot was over 6 stands for the normal 50 birds. Overhead, left to right, simultaneous driven, from the tower, rabbits,.... they were all there to miss!! Victorious , after a shoot off with Brian Nunn, was Barry Etheridge, with a  score of 35. Well done to both of you! Club results were as follows
A class 1st. Paul Gater 2nd. Dave Cross
B class 1st. Brian Irving 2nd. Neil Hucks
C class 1st Barry Etheridge 2nd. Brian Nunn.

30a: BH Wingate Competition
Click HERE for series O/A points
The cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea took its toll on the entrants for
the final stage of the Wingate shoot . Would you believe just 12 entrants!.
Well at least you could shoot the round without any holdups!  The scores are
amalgamated with the other two shoots, and the final overall scores will put
out by Paul Gater on the next shoot.
Scores of note today were Stuart Marnoch and Peter Burcham with 29, the high
gun taken by Nigel Lashbrook with 35. So well done Nigel!

31: Secretary's Trophy May 19th 2002

Following the poor turnout on the previous shoot, the Secretary Trophy was
well attended this Sunday. The layout ( which in my opinion was difficult,
then mostly they all are for me!!) included the dreaded "down the Line",
which was a good leveller for some of the scores!
Results were as follows,
1st. Stuart Marnoch 2nd. Patrick Collins 3rd. Barry Harradine 4th. Barry
Etheridge. 5th. Ray Wortley 6th. Paul Gater. 6th. Paul Gater.
Yes I know I have repeated 6th.but it was nice to say 6th. Paul Gater.
There I've said it again.........................Sorry Paul

32: The Independent Magazine Sponsored shoot
The Independent Magazine Sponsored shoot, met with a reasonable turn out at
the club on Saturday. Kevin, the sponsor, was otherwise engaged, and we look
forward to seeing him, and Cara, very soon at Biggin Hill. The shoot was 50
birds over 6/7 stands in an excellent set up by Dave Cross, who has returned
from injury. Christine Saladas, who recieved an award in March for most
promising newcomer, scored a top class 31 to take third position, in second
was Dave Cross with 35, the winner with 36 was Nigel Lashbrook. Well done
Nigel, and thanks to our sponsor Independent Magazines!!

1st Stuart Marnoc  2nd Paul Gater 3rd Barry Etherton 4th Patrick Collins

A high turnout, one of the highest over recent weeks, was seen on Sunday for the popular Treasurer's Trophy. This was brilliantly set up by Dave and Neil over 6 testing stands, consisting of going away from the pit and and tower, driven crossers, rabbits, the lot! The shooting was of a good standard as well with the first three averaging just under 75% between them. It was an excellent morning with even the sun making an appearance in the later stages of the shoot! Final scores were as follows,

1st. Stuart Marnoch  38
2nd. Paul Gater  37
3rd Barry Etherton  36

There was a huge turnout on Sunday, for the Saddlery and Gun Room annual
shoot. All the regulars were there,a few new faces, and a few old ( Tom in
his CLK) The stands were very testing, especially the driven, in the pit!. A
lot of thought, as  always, was put in by Dave and Neil, well done and thanks
to those two. The scores were all very close and shoot offs (if that is a word) were
needed for all 6 places. Results were as follows,

1st. Barry Etherton
2nd.Keith Drayton (must have been practising)
3rd. Barry Harradine
4th. Brian Irving
5th. Paul Gater (needs some more practise)
6th. Tom Wingham.
Many thanks to Howard for the Trophies.

36: Shoot 21st September 2002
1st Neil Hucks

Beautiful weather (well for Biggin Hill anyway) greeted the competitors for
the yearly Barnsby shoot. This was split between 25 bird sporting and 25
bird down the line. Unusually for a Saturday Shoot there was a reasonable
number of shooters, obviously all keen to put some silverware on their
cabinet! The man of the day was Neil Hucks, who overslept, left his gun at
home (as he was travelling by bike), was late in arriving for the shoot,
had to hire a club gun, did a lot of trapping, and ended up with the highest
number of 'kills, and was the overall winner. Congratulations Neil !! Resuls were as follows
1st. Neil Hucks
2nd Barry Etherton
3rd. Dave Cross (after a 25 bird shoot off with Terry){True}
4th. Terry Thornton
The club would like to thank Barnsby for their support and in particularly
to Peter Petherick for his shooting advice........not.!

39: Turkey Shoot Sunday 1st December 2002

A rainstorm swept the field during the Yearly Turkey Shoot. Dave Cross set
up a Gazebo to keep the competitors dry, while waiting to shoot the flush, what a star!!
This was a hundred bird shoot. Split into 50 bird sporting and a 50 bird
flush shot in pairs. The conditions were extremely difficult with the wind
and rain creating havoc! AS someone said "you can beat the traps but not the
weather at Biggin Hill. The results were very close and were as follows
Thanks to all those who took part and turned up in such dismal conditions,
thanks also to Dave, Neil, and Mat who 'set up' and to Howard for the prizes.
1st. Terry Thornton and Barry Harradine
2nd. Brian Irving and Brett Lashbrook
3rd Mike Simms and Paul Gater.

41: The Tony Gargiulo Trophy Sunday December 29th
Despite the Hurricane like weather on Sunday a large gathering turned out and trod the waterlogged grounds at Biggin Hill to shoot the Tony Gargiulo (hope I have I spelt that correctly) trophy. Tony is moving to Spain I believe to retire, after many years in the restaurant business in this country, we will miss him, and we all wish him well. Stuart Marnoch, the previous winner, had polished the trophy, but there was  no need as it was to be returned back to his sideboard, after shooting a magnificent winning high score of 41. All the scores were good despite the wind a rain (which at least blew away the Christmas cobwebs)
pics will follow from Patrick

Results were as follows,
1st. Stuart Marnoch
2nd. Paul Gater
3rd. Dave Cross (after a shoot off)
4th. Nigel Lahbrook
5th. Barry Ethertidge (again after a shoot off
6th. Patrick Collins
Happy New year to all our readers!!
