42: Saturday January10th 2003

Patrick Collins is short of cash, at the moment he can only afford gloves
minus the fingers.Well its a good then that he won the pool shoot to help
him out on Saturday. This was the first shoot of 2003, and typically at this
time of the year there was a low turnout. (Some members had more sense and
stayed at home in the warm. However for those of us there, a pool shoot over
6 stands was the order of the day for some good old fashioned
practice.results were as follows..
1st. Patrick Collins 34
2nd Nigel (smoking )Lashbrook 31
3rd Barry Etherton 29
Look forward to seeing the new gloves Patrick!

43: Clayshooting Magazine Trophy January 26th
Spring is in the air? Well the sun shone for a few minutes at Biggin Hill
(for a change) for the first stage of the Clay Magazine Winter Shoot. All
the layouts that Dave,Neil and Mat set up are brilliant, but on Sunday they
excelled themselves setting up both testing and intricate stands producing
top class 'birds'.
As mentioned the scores are accumalated, the next shoot being on the 23
February for the next stage of the competition.
Notable scores on the day were by Stuart Marnoch and Patrick Collins,
onward and forward to the next leg.............

44: Laurona Trophy
Saturday February 8th
A reasonable number of people attended Saturday's Shoot which was for the
sponsored Laurona Trophy. Neil and Matt set up magnificently as normal with
some testing birds particularly the crossers and bateau from the pit.
Thanks to Laurona. the results were as follows
1st. Patrick Collins
2.nd. Stuart Marnoch
3rd Neil Hucks

45: Clay shooting Magazine Trophy Sunday
February 23rd
Sunday saw the second stage of the Clay Shooting Magazine winter shoot, and
what a turnout! About 30 shooters took part over the 6 stands, and (I know I
say this every shoot)what a fantastic set up by Dave, Neil, and Matt. I also
discovered yesterday that Neil works out some of the trajectories on his computer just to make it that much tougher, especially the bateau's out of
the pit, where from the stand only 1/8 inch of the clay could be seen before
they turned, by which time they were nearly at ground level! This did not
deter Paul Gater from shooting an excellent 77%.Unfortunately Paul, as did
Stuart Marnoch (75% on first shoot) only completed one of the two
shoots. This allowed the intrepid Patrick Collins to come through as the
overall winner of the competition shooting an excellent 70% average over the
individual shoots to take the 'High Gun'. Well done Patrick!! Individual scores
are posted in the clubhouse, and the class results will be known shortly.
Thanks to everyone who took part, and thanks to Clay Shooting Magazine, for
their support.

46:
uzuki Grand Prix Team Trophy Saturday March 8th
"It was hard to believe , no frost, snow, or rain, (ok it was a bit windy),
was the weather for Saturday's Suzuki shoot. So there were no excuses for
any weather driven poor scores. This is an annual shoot sponsored by Team Suzuki
whose Moto GP team this year is with riders Kenny Roberts and John Hopkins and
Team Manager Garry Taylor will again lead the Team which looks to be the most
competitive season to date, click here for
Picture.
We had a large turn out considering it was Saturday, the shoot is a high gun
only trophy, which was won by Dave Cross with a score of 39. In second
position was Barry Etheridge, and joint third was Simon and Nigel.

47: Annual Dinner 2003
at The Bakery Tatsfield
WHAT A NIGHT
The Friday night Annual Club Dinner held at the 'Bakery' was an enormous
success, enjoyed by all, and thanks to Andrew for the excellent food and
drinks.
Howard presented various "thank you" presents to Dave, Neil, Mat,Pam,John
(Our Webmaster) Rosemary and Terry for their efforts and support over the
last year.
Also presented were trophies for the Sunday Competition yearly totals, In
which Paul Gater was victorious again, Paul is like a good wine the older
it gets the better it is. And Paul is getting on now!!Results were as
follows
5th Barry Etherton 283
4th. Barry Harradine 285
3rd.Patrick Collins 298
2nd. Stuart Marnoch 321
1st. Paul Gater 335
The full results for all the members can be found in the clubhouse.
Thanks to Howard for the prizes and to Terry for organizing the evening.

48: BH Wingate Competition Sunday
March 23rd
AND WHAT A DAY
Believe it or not there was one or two bleary eyed members at the Sunday
shoot (or that's how their scores looked). This shoot was for the Wingate
trophy and enjoyed by about 35 participants.
Shot over 6 stands, with some 'canny' (can he or cant he hit 'em?) birds
put up by Dave and Neil to bring out the best, and worst, in the
participants. It was a great morning with very Spring like weather leading
to some good scores, Results were as follows,
1st. Paul
2nd Stuart
3rd. Neil
4th. Barry Eheridge
5th. Patrick
6th. Dave Cross

49:
BH Wingate Competition April 27th
The third stage of this year's Wingate shoot was the order of the day
on Sunday. What was 'out of order'was the strong wind. This played havoc
with the 6 stands for this shoot, especially the bateau's and the left to
right crossers. Barry Harradine was the man of the moment scoring an
excellent 40 dropping just two birds off the last three stands an excellent
score based on the conditions. As stated this was the final of the three
shoots and results were as follows
1st. Patrick 97
2nd Dave 95
3rd Barry E 94
4th Malcolm 93
5th. Simon 87
Individual scores will be posted in the clubhouse. Thanks to Dave and Neil
for the set up and Paul Gater for the prizes.
Please note as mentioned before that the Eley Shoot is next Saturday 3rd. May

50: Eley Sponsored Day
May 3rd 2003
Thank you to Eley for sponsoring our shoot on Saturday, the cartridges will
come in handy for those prize winners. As always it was an excellent set up
and, for a change, the weather was not wet and windy!
Some very good scores were put in but nobody could break the dreaded 40.
Results were as follows,
1st. Dave
2nd. Ian
3rd. Sean
4th Nigel
5th. Robin
Well done to all !!

51: Sunday May 18th Secretary's Trophy
The springs were wound up on the traps (or so it seemed) to make an extremely
hard, but most enjoyable, shoot at Biggin Hill on Sunday for the Secretary
trophy.
The wind added to the difficulty of this 50 bird shoot over the normal 6
stands. There was quite a large turnout for this popular Sunday competition,
and the slight rain interval didn't deter any of the 'players'. What made it
even more pleasurable was that Patrick did not finish in the top 10!! The
scores were obviously low but were evenly balanced throughout.
Overall scores were as follows
1st. Paul
2nd. Stuart
3rd. Dave. C.
4 th. Terry
5th. Neil H.
6th. (after a three way shoot off) Barry H.

52: Sunday June 15th Gamebore Sponsored Day
Here are the results of Sunday's shoot.
The hot weather of late held on into Sunday for the Gamebore Sponsored day.
Dave and Neil again excelled themselves with an excellent, testing set up for
this 50 bird competition. The driven 'grouse' into the pit, were extremely
testing with the stand about 30 feet from the front. Not a problem for Malcolm
who
straightened this, and went on to score 80% and was the eventual overall
winner.
Placing were as follows
1st. Malcolm
2nd. Paul
(the next three place were after a shoot off)
3rd. Barry H.
4th. Dave C
5th. Simon

Finally in 6th. position was Trevor.
Thanks to everyone who took part and to the sponsors Gamebore.

53: Saturday June 28th Have a go Day
The annual 'Have a go day' took place on Saturday at BHCPSC. This event
allows anybody who is interested in shooting, or thinking of taking up the
sport, to have a free short lesson and a free shoot. Free? yes it was free
thanks to Howard, and Brian who made a rare visit to give up some of his
expertise and advice. It was well supported by a good cross section, with
one or two youngsters showing enormous promise!
The club had a 50 bird practice competition over 6 stands which was enjoyed
by all in the beautiful June sunshine.
Results were as follows,
1st. Neil H.
2nd. Terry T.
3rd Nigel L.

55: Saturday July 26th Practice Session
The Shoot on Saturday at BHCPSC was a practice session, not even a Pool
shoot!, much to the disgust of Dave C. who wanted to introduce one half way
round, at which time he was on about 80%.!!
It was quite a busy morning one way or another, with Peter and Neil giving
about 15 youngsters some instruction over the morning. There were a few
visitors, also some shooters, taking their safety lessons, to join the
club(this followed their shoot at the 'Have a go day')
Young Rosemary was otherwise disposed and thanks to Pat Collins(Mother of
Pat Collins) for stepping into the breach in serving the much needed tea and
coffee.
Results were as follows
1st.Dave C.
2nd. Darren (visitor)
3rd. Terry M.

56: Sunday August 10th Treasurer's Shield
Sunday saw a large turnout for the ever popular annual Treasurer's Trophy
shoot, at Biggin Hill.As you will know we enjoy many different weather
conditions over the year at our shoots. The majority seem to be either wet ,
cold, or windy, and in some instances all three! But it is nice to report
that the temperatures for this shoot will be remembered not for the best of
the summer or even the decade, but the highest ever since records began. A
massive 37.8degrees centigrade} (over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in old money)
was recorded at Biggin Hill.!!!
Paul G.attempted to beat this but could only manage a score of 36 in this 50
bird shoot. Thanks to Dave,Mat, and Neil for a top class set up. Results were as
follows
1st. Paul G. 2nd. Nigel L. 3rd Stuart M. 4th. Barry H.

58: Sunday September 7th Saddlery & Gunroom
Trophy
Sunday saw the Annual Saddlery and Gun Room Trophy shoot at Biggin Hill. This
is a avery popular shoot, as was evidenced by the large turnout. As always
the 'set up' was excellent so thanks to Neil and Matt for their efforts.
Pretty testing stands were enjoyed by all on this 50 bird shoot, including
'rabbit',' going away' bateau, and a fast right to left crosser followed by
a driven quatering standard. The most testing stand was the almost 'down the
line' bird from the pit which followed the rabbit, and the successful
'kills' I think came in to the more "poke and hope" category!!
Barry E.(the previous years winner) was explaining the difficulty in keeping
the cup clean, until he discovered the right silver polish and cloth. The
club members got together and decided it was only fair therefore, to allow
Barry to win again!!
Placings were as follows
1st. Barry E
2nd. Neil H.
Joint 3rd ( awaiting shoot off) Barry H / Stuart M
5th. Terry T.

59: Saturday September
20th
Barnsby Sponsored Shoot

The shoot on Sunday heralded in the last day of the Summer but 1. What a
Summer! and the hot weather is still going, up to 80 degrees (which sounds
much warmer than 27 degrees centigrade).
The shoot was sponsored by
Barnsby of which the shop is a client, and
Peter
from the company generously arranges the trophies for this popular shoot.
Barry E. was the high gun and took yet another major cup and Trophy home, to
join the Saddlery and Gun Room Trophy he won 2 weeks ago. Hope there is
enough room on the sideboard Jan!
All the scores were close and there was a four man shoot off for the lower
prizes.
Positions were as follows
1st. Barry E
2nd. Terry M.
3rd. Malcolm
4th. Dave C.
5th. Simon
6th. Terry T.
Thank you to Barnsby and of
course Peter for your support.

60: Sunday 5th October Express Sponsored Day

ALL thanks to Express Cartridges who sponsored the shoot at Biggin
Hill on Sunday.
Autumn reared its 'windy' head with gusts that made the all ready difficult
set up even harder.
This was shown in the scores with only 3 guns above 60 %.
Results of the 'Express' competition were as follows,
1st. Dave C 2nd Brian I. 3rd Stuart M
4th,5th,and 6th, were Paul G. Neil Hu. and Patrick C. respectively.
This was also a club shoot and class winners were the following members,
A. 1 st Dave C.
2nd. Stuart M.
B. 1st. Patrick C
2nd. Keith
C1st. Brian Ir.
2nd. Tom Mac.

61. Saturday 18th
Napier Shoot
Thanks to 'Napier' who sponsored our shoot on Saturday at Biggin Hill.
Despite the World Cup game against South Africa there was a large turnout for
this shoot (although I guess quite a few left slightly earlier to catch the
game!)
It was a tremendous Autumnal day with the sun shining through most of this 50
bird shoot. (shame about the wind) Another excellent set up by the boys with
testing stands all round, including a l/r and r/l crosser on stand 3, not
to hard you may say, but simultaneously!!, really sorted the men from the boys.
Boy, Barry E. won continuing his recent winning streak, so well done to him.
Second was Patrick C. and third, after a shoot off with Dave C., was Nigel
L.
1st Barry 35
2nd Patrick 32
3rd Nigel 29
4th Terry 25
5th Jan 24
6th Steve 20
7th = George 19
7th = Robin 19

62: Sunday November 2nd
Beretta sponsored shoot
Rain, wind, even the Rugby Word Cup, could not deter the intrepid club members
and visitors, to this Year's Beretta
sponsored shoot at Biggin Hill. Beretta
put up some superb prizes for the top three, and our thanks to them for their
generosity.
Brett L got married last year, so it was not surprising that he hasn't been
able to make all the shoots over the past year. However it did not detract
for his excellent round, being just piped from first place by Paul G, whom
seems to be shooting better than ever despite his advancing years!! Our
thanks go to Dave, Matt and Neil H. for setting up, which lets face it in
the rain and cold at 7 a.m. on a Sunday morning can not be that pleasant.
Results were as follows
1st. Paul G
2nd. Bret L.
Joint 3rd. Brian I. Barry E.
The club class results will follow shortly.

63: Saturday November 15th Chris Wallace
Memorial Shield
The past Saturday shoot was the Chris Wallace shoot, and what a turn out!!
Chris, as most people know was the Club Secretary, and did a lot of good
work for the club, and he is sadly missed. This was evidenced by the number
of 'guns' that took part in the competition.
Mike S. had been missing for a couple of shoots, he advised everyone that he
was waiting for his "Caymen" to arrive. What that had to do with Shooting we
didn't know. Tropical fish, even Coy, we could understand, but what did he
want with an alligator!! He advised he would be bringing it to the next
shoot, well we were worried as Sean has just bought a tiny Jack Russell puppy
and we were concerned that it, the gator, might fancy a snack at the prize
giving. Well surprise, it was in fact a fantastic gun (note. Not as good as
the Beretta's in the Shop at the moment see Jonathan {the good looking one} for
details).
It was a tricky lay out, and the wind didn't help matters, however Mike S.
managed a magnificent round scoring just under 70%, to take the high croc..
gun award and trophy. So well done to him and also to Neil H. who was
second, and Barry E. and Dave C. who were joint third.
Thanks as always to Matt, Dave and Neil for the set up.

64: Sunday November 30th Turkey Shoot
For the non members/ non regulars this shoot is for Frozen Turkeys not those
feathered and flying kind. Just thought I would explain as last year when I
told a non member he should have a go at the Turkey Shoot, he said that he
would love to but thought his wife wouldn't approve, .. there you go.
As always there was a large turnout for this competition with the Turkey
Hampers laid on by Howard.
All participants were drawn in pairs, out of the hat, and settled down to
this 50 bird 2 shooter flush.
The layout was similar to a compact discipline, but with 4 birds 'up' at
each time.
These are put up when both shooters close their gun's. It was great fun
especially as the sequence was often changed, deliberately!! What's more the
weather stayed dry and hardly any wind, which was an added bonus.
Scores were reasonably close, but high 'Turkey' went to Tom Mc. and his
partner Mike, following his win of the previous shoot with his new 'Caymen'.
Well done to Barry E. and his partner Patrick C. who were just two shots
behind in second place. Third was Nigel L. and the veteran, Paul G. Thank you
to Neil H. and Matt who set up and of course to
Howard and Nesta for the Hampers.

65: 100 Bird Shoot Saturday December 13th
Anybody would have thought it was Christmas by the embarrassingly low turnout
on Saturday. Yes there were a lot of people out getting their presees and oh
yes, it was raining pretty hard, but 12 guns which included Neil, Matt, and
Dave who put on a magnificent layout) was on the light side.
For a change it was a 100 bird shoot which worked well over the various
stands, and we all agreed to have another go in the Summer.
Results were as follows.
1stPatrick C.
2nd. Adrian
3rd. Barry E
4th. Brett L
5th. Neil H.
Merry Christmas to all our readers!!!

66: Sunday December 28th The Tony Gargiulo Trophy
The last shoot of the year was the Tony Gargiulo trophy, it was also the coldest
shoot,
so my toes told me!
It was quite a large turnout as well, bearing in mind the time of year, hangovers, budgets etc.
This was the normal 50
bird shoot, but was an extremely challenging lay out (thanks Dave).
The
scores were relatively high, to the surprise of many, with the top 3 scores
averaging a very respectable 75%
After the shoot it was muted whether or not to change the title from the
Tony G. Trophy to the Stuart M. Trophy, as his winning score was in fact a
hat trick, winning the trophy in 2001 and 2002, so many congratulations to
Stuart on an excellent performance!!
Placings were as follows
1st. Stuart M (39)
2nd. Barry E. (38)
3rd.Paul G. (35)
4th. Dave C, (34)
5 th. Brian I. (32)
6th. Patrick C.= (30)
6th. Barry H.= (30)
6th. Terry T.= (30)
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year
and happy shooting in 2004.
